Cruiseferry Control System Enhancement
Reducing smoke and vibrations and improving fuel efficiency
Turner ECS was awarded the order for a retrofit project on a cruiseferry sailing between IJmuiden and North Shields. The two twin propulsion control systems, responsible for speed, load and clutch control, will be replaced by new systems based on Woodward's latest engine control platform, LECM.
Mechanical load sharing between the engines, which is currently prone to intermittent failures, will be upgraded using fuel rack position sensors. In addition new start-fuel limiter logic will be implemented to reduce smoke during engine starts and propeller phase control logic will be implemented to reduce vibrations and improve fuel efficiency.
