Turner ECS uses Woodward’s configurable and programmable digital steam turbine control platforms offer simplex, duplex, and TMR options that incorporate proven software and hardware.

Turner ECS offers Woodward's largest selection of standard off-the-shelf steam turbine controllers in the market. These controls are designed for any size industrial steam turbines, and require minimum engineering time to configure to a specific application. The software has been refined and proven in thousands of applications installed by Woodward and their partners.


The 505XT controller is designed to operate single valve, or single extraction/admission industrial steam turbines of all sizes and applications.

The 505XT controller also includes the following turbine protection functions to ensure that the turbine or its driven load (compressor, pump, generator) is not operated outside of its designed limits.

This user-friendly front panel allows engineers to access and program the unit to the specific plant’s requirements, and plant operators to easily start/stop the turbine and enable/disable any control mode.

The Atlas-II programmable control is designed specifically for prime mover control applications such as:

The ATLAS II is a low cost alternative to a general purpose PLC as it has the option to incorporate the following functions:

  • Speed control
  • Synchronisation
  • Load sharing
  • Generator protection
  • Prime mover sequencing
  • Import/export control

The Atlas-II control is available in several configurations to meet the specific I/O needs of the prime  mover. The modular hardware configuration of the Atlas-II lends itself to bulkhead mounting.

Hardware modules can support a variety of analog and digital signals including thermocouples, RTDs, 4–20 mA signals, and others. Control power for the Atlas-II is supplied from an external 24 Vdc source.

Environmental specifications allow the Atlas-II control to move out of the control room and closer to the prime mover. In many cases, it can be mounted on the prime mover skid. Typically, the Atlas-II control is mounted in an enclosure rated for the site-specific environmental conditions.

The Atlas-II platform supports Profibus and Ethernet field architectures for remote distributed I/O.

Micronet Plus

The MicroNet™ Plus control system is a flexible, SIL 3 certified, state-of-the-art digital control system designed specifically for prime mover control applications such as:

The MicroNet TMR’s superior architecture and diagnostic coverage combine to create a system with 99.999% availability and reliability.

The MicroNet TMR can be applied as a component of protection and safety systems to allow the overall system to meet IEC61508 SIL-3 compliance standards.

For IEC61508 SIL-3 based applications, a safety certified MicroNet Safety Module (MSM) is required as part of the MicroNet system. The MSM functions as the system’s SIL-3 logic solver, and its fast (12 millisecond) response time and integrated overspeed and acceleration detection/protection functionality make it ideal for applications on critical high-speed rotating motors, compressor, turbines, or engines.

Designed as a turbine control system, the MicroNet TMR controller’s actuator driver modules are designed to interface with proportional or integrating turbine valve servos using single or dual redundant coils, with AC or DC feedback position sensors. The MicroNet TMR control can accommodate any combination of Woodward standard MicroNet I/O modules to provide maximum application flexibility. Available Inputs and Outputs include:

5009FT Triple Redundant

5009FT is a standard-off-the-shelf steam turbine control for use on industrial steam turbines used in critical compressor or generator drive applications. The 2301E-ST is a steam turbine control with internal algorithms designed to start/stop, control, and protect a small steam turbine driving a generator, pump, or compressor.

This control’s field configurability allows it to be easily configured by the user for a diverse range of applications.

The 2301E-ST’s integrated generator power sensor and load-sharing capabilities also make it ideal for small turbine generator sets where a cost-effective control solution is essential.
