Turner ECS utilises Woodward Diesel Engine actuation platforms designed for all sizes of engines.

Diesel Engine OEM's have long used Woodward Diesel Engine based actuators on their engines due to their high accuracy, fast response times, and long term reliability. Platforms range from self-contained pump/servo systems, to electric actuation. These platforms are specifically designed for Diesel Engines applications and provide proven reliable operation.

As a system supplier of actuators, engine controls, safety systems, sensors and governors, Turner provides expert technical support through our knowledge of the complete system and all component interactions.

EG-3P Actuator
Woodward EG-3P (proportional) and EG-3PC (proportional with compensation) actuators are designed for use on diesel, gas, and gasoline engines, or turbines and are particularly well suited for use in control systems requiring a proportional mechanical output of a proportional electrical input.
Hot Valve

Woodward’s Glo-Tech™ hot valve/actuator system provides precise control of high temperature gases in an on-engine environment. The Glo-Tech includes a high temperature butterfly-type rotary valve controlled by an electric actuator designed for use in reciprocating engine applications.

Key features:
  • Fuel throttles
  • Wastegates
  • Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)
  • Compressor recirculation (bypass)
  • Waste heat recovery (WHR)
  • Exhaust throttles

The Glo-Tech hot valve system is a high-temperature butterfly valve and electric actuator combination that can be used to regulate high-temperature gases in single and two-stage turbocharged reciprocating engines.

The valve is designed to be positioned by an R-Series electric rotary actuator through an anti-backlash coupling capable of handling considerable misalignment.

Valve sizes range from 40 mm to 220 mm and are constructed using stainless steel and other high-temperature alloys, allowing them to handle continuous gas temperatures between 200 °C and 780 °C.

PSG Governor

The Woodward PSG governor is a pressure compensated, speed-droop or isochronous governor for controlling the speed of small diesel, gas, and gasoline engines, or small steam or industrial gas turbines.

The governor is used to control engines or turbines driving alternators, dc generators, pumps, or compressors.

3161 Governor

The 3161 governor is designed for speed control of diesel engines, gas engines, or steam turbines. The variety of standard features and available options makes the governor ideal for use in a wide variety of applications.

Applications include off-highway vehicles, industrial, marine, generator set, compressor, or pump drives. 3161 operation can be isochronous for accurate constant speed or frequency control, or droop for load sharing.

The amount of droop may be changed internally or with an optional external lever. The governor has its own sump for quick start-up response. Direction of rotation of the governor drive is set at the factory, but can be changed in the field by turning the pump housing. Torque Rise to limit high speed torque, and Low Idle Offset to provide increased low speed, no-load stability, and reduce undershoot and stalling are among the many governor options.

The 3161 is a mechanical hydraulic governor capable of droop or isochronous operation. A variety of speed setting, fuel limiting, and shutdown options may be added to the cover of the governor, making it extremely versatile for a variety of installations.

EGB Governor/Actuator

The EGB-10P, -13P, or -35P Governor/Actuator is used with Woodward analog or digital electronic controls that provide a proportional 20–160 mA signal to control dual fuel, diesel, and gasoline engines, and gas and steam turbines driving electrical or mechanical loads.

During normal operation, the electronic control and actuator section of the EGB regulates fuel to the prime mover. Upon loss of electronic control signal, the standard EGB is adjusted to cause prime mover shutdown.

An electronic, pneumatic, or manual starting device is used to allow prime mover starting and operation under ballhead control. The ballhead section also regulates fuel if the control fails in such a manner as to call for maximum fuel. The EGB governor/ actuator can also be factory set to give maximum fuel (reverse action) on electronic control signal loss.

The self-contained hydraulic oil supply makes the governor easy to maintain in almost any installation environment.

The ballhead portion of the EGB governor/actuator can be operated isochronously or with droop for single-unit or parallel applications. A knob provides droop adjustment for the ballhead governor in parallel applications. The load-limit control knob is used to adjust the maximum output position of the governor/actuator.

UG8D/10 Governor

The UG Governor is a mechanical hydraulic governor for controlling diesel, gas, or dual fuel engines, or steam turbines. UG-Dial governors are particularly suited for constant speed applications. Knob speed settings make synchronization easy for generator applications. Motor speed setting is available for remote synchronization.

Adjustable droop makes load sharing between engines precise. UG Lever governors are widely used for variable speed control. Remote speed setting can be either mechanical through the speed setting lever or pneumatic with a special speed setting device.

Special attachments are available for other applications. The UG pump is designed for applications which reverse engine rotation. The governor provides extremely reliable speed control throughout the drive speed and temperature range. This proven design has been industry standard for many years. World-wide acceptance provides easy service in most engine and governor shops.
